there was also another Ivy Beyond the Wall at Boule. Soror Crystal Creech Shepherd passed away on Tuesday, July 15. Below is a link to view and sign the guest book of the local newspaper. When the link opens, scroll to the bottom and do a search of her last name.

Sorors,

just wanted to share the obituary write up in the Montgomery Advertiser on Ivy Beyond the Wall Bertha Underwood. She passed away at Boule on Thursday, July 18. My deepest sympathies go out to the Sorors of Beta Pi and Beta Nu Omega.

UNDERWOOD, Ms. Bertha M. a lifelong resident of Montgomery, AL passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 12 Noon from St. John's A.M.E. Church with Rev. James Arnell, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Serenity Gardens with Ross-Clayton Funeral Home, Inc., directing. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Beta Nu Omega Chapter, Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 6 pm from St. John's A.M. E. Church. Bertha M. Underwood was born March 14, 1921 in Autaugaville, AL, the second of three children of Ida Bates Underwood and Jefferson Underwood. She was preceded in death by her brother Esse W. Underwood. The family moved from Autaugaville to Montgomery after the death of her father when she was very young. She graduated from Alabama State Laboratory High in 1940 and Alabama State University in 1944. Her master's degree was earned from the University of Pennsylvania and she did further studies at Columbia University. Bertha was a history professor at Alabama State University and retired after having taught there for 40 years. She was a faithful, life long member of St. John's A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the St. John's Working Club, Stewardess Board and the Roses. She was a devoted member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority since 1941. She is survived by a brother, Dr. Jefferson (Kaye) Underwood; two nephews, Dr. Jefferson (Sara) Underwood III, and Dr. Perrin Underwood; one sister-in-law, Earlene Underwood of Eutaw, AL; three great nephews, Slayton, Blake and Zachary Underwood and a host of devoted friends and relatives.

Hey Sorors!!!!!! Sending a skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee from the ATL. I will most definitly be in DC this summer, just not sure about that registration fee.........LOL I will be in the midst. Hope to see you there!

I'm holding down Rho Rho Omega here in Columbus, Ga! I'm trying to go to DC for Boule but I haven't really looked into. I might need to find a place to stay first! lol
